Select Your Grade

Both grades are Dual Certified (Low Carbon) for better weldability.

⚙️

304 / 304L

The Standard

The most versatile stainless steel. Ideal for indoor applications, machining parts, and dry environments where extreme corrosion resistance is not required.

  • Lower Cost: Budget-friendly choice.
  • Formable: Excellent for bending.
  • Use For: Indoor Brackets, Machinery.
Recommended

316 / 316L

Marine Grade

Contains Molybdenum for superior resistance to pitting. Essential for environments exposed to salt water, chlorides, or harsh chemicals.

  • Max Protection: Resists rust/pitting.
  • Durable: Best for long-term outdoor use.
  • Use For: Marine, Lab, Outdoor Trim.

Edge Condition Matters

For precision fitment, the edge profile makes all the difference.

Cold Drawn (True Bar)

Extruded and cold finished through a die. This creates perfectly square corners and precise dimensions.

Corners Sharp / Square (90°)
Tolerance Precise (-0.002")
Surface Smooth / Matte
Best For Keyways, Machining

Sheared & Edged

Slit from a wider plate and edge-conditioned. Results in slightly rounded edges and looser tolerances.

Corners Rounded / Radius
Tolerance Loose (+/- 0.015")
Surface Rougher
Best For Structural Brackets

Small Profile, Big Utility

Common applications for 3/8" x 1/2" stainless steel bar.

Grade 304 Stainless Steel Key Stock

Machine Key Stock

The cold-drawn "True Bar" finish provides the tight tolerances and square corners needed for machine keys and shaft locking.

Grade 304 Small Stainless Brackets

Mounting Brackets

Ideal for creating small, corrosion-resistant brackets for sensors, instruments, or shelving in food processing areas.

Grade 316 Laboratory Frame Structure

Lab & Medical

Grade 316 provides the necessary resistance to harsh cleaners and chemicals found in pharmaceutical and laboratory settings.

Grade 304 Stainless Steel Trim Molding

Architectural Trim

Often polished and used as separation strips in tile work, cabinetry inlays, or furniture accents due to its sleek profile.

Logistics Advisory

Standard 12-foot bars must ship via LTL Freight. To qualify for UPS/FedEx Ground shipping (and save on freight costs), request your bars be cut to lengths of 6 feet or less.

Technical FAQ

Expert answers regarding material properties and certification.

Is 304/316 Stainless Steel magnetic?
Generally, 300-series stainless is considered non-magnetic in its annealed state. However, Cold Drawn bars often exhibit slight magnetism. The cold working process creates martensite in the microstructure, which attracts magnets. This does not indicate lower corrosion resistance.
Are the dimensions oversized or undersized?
Cold drawn flats are typically produced to an undersized tolerance (Negative Tolerance). For example, the 1/2" width will measure between 0.500" and 0.496". This allows the bar to fit freely into a standard 1/2" milled slot or keyway.
Can I weld this material?
Yes. Both our 304 and 316 stocks are "Dual Certified" (304/304L and 316/316L). The "L" stands for Low Carbon, which prevents carbide precipitation during welding, ensuring a strong, corrosion-resistant weld without the need for post-weld annealing.
Do you provide Mill Test Reports (MTRs)?
Yes. Full traceability is available. You can request MTRs (Material Test Reports) with your order, which verify the chemical composition, mechanical properties, and melt source (country of origin).
